This was a really fun episode of RPDR, and I don’t think Michelle Visage was blowing smoke when she said that the judging at this stage in the competition is tough because nobody sucks. This really is the most talented group of queens the show has seen. At this point, I really am sad to see any of them go home.
During the mini challenge, contestants were asked to determine whether members of the pit crew prefer to be on the top or on the bottom… of a bunk bed. And it turned out that there was only one pit-crew member who prefers the top bunk. Derrick Barry was the winner of the mini-challenge since he guessed the closest number of pit crew members correctly, though it didn’t seem to me that he was granted any particular advantage in the maxi-challenge. Whatever, he still won.
For the maxi-challenge, the queens were divided into groups of two. They had to record political ads where they ran for the position of the first Drag president. They were expected to both promote themselves and smear their opponents. The shady political teams were:
Bob and Derrick
Kim and Naomi
Thor and Chi Chi
Bob and Derrick worked surprisingly well together. Like, they were an amazing team. Their ads were so clever and hilarious! It should be noted, too, that Derrick performed her little heart out this week. They deserved to win this week’s challenge. They were far and away the best team.
In other news, I know Carson criticized Derrick’s make-up this week for being too obvious, but I thought she looked lovely, and really proved that she can be pretty even when she isn’t Britney.
Kim and Naomi were safe this week. And Michelle Visage made Kim cry on the runway, which just made Michelle look like a monster, am I right?
It was like watching someone kick a puppy.
In all fairness, I know that Michelle and Carson had to spend a lot of time coaching Kim on her annunciation and inflection, but we (the audience) know that Kim struggles with public speaking and has had to work really hard on it due to her lisp. It was very brave of her to poke fun of herself in Naomi’s ad.
The bottom line is, Kim and Naomi did fine, but they were no where near as good as Bob and Derrick. SO they deserved to be safe.
Team Thor and Chi Chi were rightfully on the bottom this week. Their political commercials were both very strange and not very funny.
So Thorgy and Chi Chi had to lip sync for their lives. The song was “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls. And dear God these girls BROUGHT IT! They both gave it their all, but Chi Chi’s heart was on her sleeve with this performance. Oustanding.
So Thorgy had to sashay away. She’s a great performer, but Chi Chi just rocked her Jennifer Holiday impression. There was nobody that could have beaten her this week. Maybe Latrice Royale… Yeah, Latrice Royale could have beaten her, but that’s about it. Well played Chi Chi!
See ya later, Thorgy. It’s been fun.
