Let us rejoice. Let us be thankful. The mini-challenges are back!
Oh, Pit Crew….
They are clearly thrilled.
In all seriousness, I enjoy a good mini-challenge. They’re always so fun and the judging is always unapologetically arbitrary. But more importantly, I was concerned when there had been no mini-challenges this season (and no sign of the pit crew) that the show’s move to VH1 meant that season 9 of RPDR was being watered down for straight people. I hope the presence of the Pit Crew this week means that I’m wrong.
For the mini-challenge, the queens had to quickly get into beachwear drag and take selfies with the pit crew.
Some queens did better than others. For example, Cynthia couldn’t even stay in focus.
That girl is just so darn jittery!
Valentina was pretty hilarious, asking to be introduced as Miss Venezuela…
… and then attempting to represent “diversity” with her pose. Drag can be delightfully inappropriate sometimes.
Alexis is the one who won the mini-challenge this week:
Her selfie is good, but let’s be honest, Alexis won because she is a self-proclaimed Broadway Queen and the maxi-challenge was to put on a musical!
Kardashian: The Musical was fun and funny, but there were certain queens who really out-shined the others. There were certain other queens who did not perform well at all. Let’s assess their performance in the musical right beside their runway looks, shall we?
Well, I’ve been saying for weeks that Ms. Michelle needed to do something to stand out, and this week, she finally brought her A-Game. Her Kris Jenner was spot-on, which is good, because her runway look was pretty basic.
It’s actually a shame that Nina threw a little tantrum about not getting cast as Blac Chyna, because otherwise, I thought she did a really nice job in both the runway and the musical. Her Kloe was actually very funny, and her runway this week was fierce. But the spoiled-brat routine grew old quickly. So she didn’t get the part she wanted! That show-biz! Off-topic, I kinda wish she wasn’t so boobalicious on the runway every week (and I get annoyed every time she slaps her boobs around… and she does it often), but her make-up was perfection this week. That is one gorgeous face she’s sporting this week! Nice to see that she can actually make herself look pretty when she’s not making herself look like a peach or a space alien.
Shea’s Blac Chyna was fantastic. She also brought a really fun runway look. Muppet-chic (or is it Miley-chic?). I have no problems with Shea’s win this week. She stood out as one of the better performers.
Peppermint’s Britney Spears impersonation was seriously good. You’ll notice her in the background of several pictures in this post, pulling focus away from everyone else. I actually think Peppermint may have even out-performed Shea. Shea’s runway look was what solidified her win this week, though. I think Peppermint looks like a cute little Powerpuff Girl, but Michelle hated her skirt, and this was the second week in a row that Michelle hated her skirt. Had she worn something more fabulous under the pink Muppet coat, she might have given Shea a run for her money.
Her Lindsay was fine and I liked the Russian drag. Sasha is a clever girl.
I didn’t get her Kendall Jenner drag. Of course, I have no idea what would have worked better since I know little to nothing about Kendall Jenner, but still, Valentina’s performance was forgettable this week. Her fur outfit was fierce, though. Stunningly beautiful, as always. She needs to be careful not to rest on pretty, though. She was really bringing it at the beginning of the competition; now is not the time to drag her feet.
You’ll notice Peppermint pulling attention away from Valentina in the background.
Meh. Both her performance and her runway look were just okay.
You’ll notice Peppermint pulling attention away from Trinity in the background.
Highly forgettable. This queen is supposed to a big deal in Brooklyn, right? Has she just not shown up yet this season?
Eureka looked fabulous this week on the runway. And she did as good a job portraying the future North West as can be expected. She was so worried about having to lip-sync for her life in crutches. The poor girl apparently didn’t see Ru’s surprise elimination coming at all.
Cynthia played Kim Kardashian, arguably the starring role of the musical, and she did not know the words to any of her songs. Her runway look was also pretty basic. She deserved her spot in the bottom two.
Her face is pretty, but boring. Her days on this show are numbered. She also deserved to be in the bottom two.
Both bitches are lucky that Eureka’s knee injury (sustained during the cheer-leading challenge) were substantial enough to demand that she not continue in the competition. In a surprise twist, Ru announced that the show had been in touch with Eureka’s doctors, and that they could not keep Eureka on in good conscience. So Eureka is taking time to recover, and she will be back for season 10.
