This episode brought us the return of the “Reading Is Fundamental” mini-challenge. I was excited to see that the library was open for some quality reading time, and for the most part, I thought the girls delivered. It also brought us the return of RuPaul’s Roast, only this time, the girls would be roasting Michelle Visage.
By the way, on a another note, can you think of a more terrifying challenge that roasting Michelle Visage?! Maybe roasting Nina Garcia…
So let’s get to critiquing…
As far as I’m concerned, this was Peppermint’s week to shine. What a stellar performance! Her read of Trinity, saying that she was one of two wax figures in the room, was hilarious. And Peppermint really did serve up the best roast. She was fun and charming, and her joke about Destiny’s Child was pretty funny. And just look a this runway look! That is some RuPaul realness if I ever saw it. Peppermint looks stunning. This was a well-deserved win.
Sasha was my second favorite of the night. She was funny and intellectual. She used her dry sense of humor to her own advantage. Her set of jokes about being from Jersey were a lot of fun.
Shea did a nice job opening the roast. She looks great and she made people laugh. I like that she closed her performance by saying that if you liked her jokes, her name is Shea Coulee, and if you didn’t, her name is Nina Bonina Brown.
I can’t believe I’m about to type this, but I did not like Valentina’s performance. I guess the girl isn’t perfect after all. I didn’t get it. Why was she playing this character? She isn’t supposed to be Michelle Visage, right? The accent was strange and the tone of her voice was annoying. Her joke about Ross Matthew and the hamster was crude, but not really funny. I really just didn’t get it.
Nina decided to show up dressed as Nina’s great-aunt. Whatever.
You know, I think I’d like to see Nina present as someone beautiful for a change. She has only ever come out as with two types of looks: some freaky thing, like an alien or a giant peach, or kind of slutty and boobalicious. I’d like to see her do glamour and beauty. I think America’s next drag superstar can be edgy and experimental, but she needs to be able to pull out a glamour look every now and then.
This was bad. And painful to watch.
When she got all pouty in the library over Farrah’s read, I wanted to slap her. Farrah said something about how she had more rolls than the Pillsbery Dough Boy. It was funny! And it was such a benign joke when you compare it to reads of seasons past. But Alexis took it personally and got all upset over it. Ross Matthews and RuPaul got rightfully annoyed with Alexis over her thin-skin.
In other news. Why was she green? She said in passing something about how Michelle Visage likes green, right? Was that really the reason or did I miss something? I, like Tamar Braxton, thought she was trying to be Elphaba, but that didn’t seem to be the case. Except she did pull a little witch hat out of her dress during her lip-sync, so maybe she was Elphaba? Unless she always carries around a little witch hat?
I think we all knew this week would be Farrah’s week. That girl has been in over her head for some time now. Oddly enough, I think she actually could have done well this week. Her performance in the “Reading Is Fundamental” challenge was really good! I do think that she was upset that she hurt Alexis’s feelings, which may have thrown her off her game. I also think that she should have listened to Ross and Ru when they spoke to her in the workroom. She came across as mean and unfunny, but a wink and a smile with a little “Love You Mean It!” would have gone a long way. But still, I think we knew that it would have taken a Latrice-Royale lip-sync to save her this week. And Latrice Royale, she is not. So it was ultimately her turn to go.
