Just as every season of Drag Race has a “Snatch Game” episode and an episode where the library is open (#ReadingIsFundamental), RPDR fans have also come to expect the makeover challenge. This season, the queens made-over members of Ru’s crew, and it was actually a really fun episode. One of the better episodes this season, I’d say. This is the point in the season when the less talented queens have already gone home, so the competition is tight.
Let’s see how these queens performed as Drag Mamas:
Congratulations to Ms. Trinity! There’s some 80s showgirl realness going on here. The family resemblance is great, and Trinity really made sure that her drag baby looked fierce and was able to put on a great show. In heels! A well-deserved win.
On a personal note, I apologize for the fact that my living room lights are reflected in the TV. It won’t happen again.
Their outfits don’t go together as well as they should, but Wintergreen is true diva. Some of that is Peppermint’s makeover, but some of it us surely the crew member’s personality. Let’s face it, this isn’t a great showing by Peppermint, so she’s lucky her drag baby had so much raw talent. Wintergreen cracked Ke$ha up! Like I said, it was a fun episode.
One of the things I have always loved about this show is how much fun the judges seem to have. They always seem like they’re just a group of friends talking over drinks.
Sasha’s look was praised a bit too much this week, methinks. Yes, there is a strong family resemblance. And yes, the whole thing with the word LOVE turning into the word VELOUR was clever. But let’s face it, those jackets look like upholstery.
In the first couple of episodes this season, I tended to forget about Alexis. Then she had a few strong performances in the middle. Now this week, I completely forgot about her again. The “basic” quality of these looks was also what the judges criticized most. However, I agree with the judges in that her looks are at least polished and cohesive. The same cannot be said for the two queens in the bottom.
Yes, the hair on Bae’s wig is falling into her face right there on the runway. It was a mess. Shea clearly didn’t take the time or put forth the effort that Trinity did in ensuring that her drag baby was camera-ready. This landed her in the bottom two, along with Nina, who was there for the third time.
What a mess! That make-up is sloppy, those ears are cut out of construction paper, and the outfit has absolutely nothing to do with the face. If Nina had competed 3 seasons ago, I might have found her interesting and creative. Unfortunately for Nina, her particular kind of drag draws inevitable comparisons to Kim Chi. And Nina is no Kim Chi! Plus, when it came time to lip-sync for her life, it was evident that her heart was no longer in it. So Nina Bonina Brown Bader Ginsberg went home.
