I thought this episode was really good and entertaining. It showed just how talented the final four queens really are. Ru asked them to write their own lyrics to a remix of her song “Category Is,” and then perform it in front of the judges. I enjoyed watching them work on their songs in the studio. I enjoyed listening to them speak to Ru and Michelle privately while recording Ru’s podcast. Overall, it proved to me that these four girls really deserved to the final four.
That “twist” at the very of the episode was bullshit.
The first few times Project Runway made room for a final four at Bryant Park, I thought it was great, and genuinely surprising. However, it has since become almost expected, thereby losing any shock value it once had as a plot “twist.” In fact, while watching the episode of Drag Race, my husband actually said out loud, “I’d bet they all get to stay.” And the worst part is, they don’t all deserve to stay. Because one queen in particular gave one of the worst lip-sync performances of the season:
Trinity did not know the words! Every time the camera was on her, it became clearer and clearer that her lip-sync was way off. She may have been favored by many to win the crown now that Valentina is gone, and she still might actually win, but she certainly doesn’t deserve it. Her Eleganza Extravaganza look may have been her strongest runway look all season, but her lip-sync was by far the weakest performance. There was no need for a final four to all go to finale this season. The top 3 should have been Shea, Peppermint, and Sasha.
She may be the underdog, but I’m rooting for Peppermint. Not only is she stunningly beautiful, but she also has personality for days. These things matter. Being likable goes a long way in show business. Look at RuPaul! Everyone loves her. Plus, I am always impressed Peppermint’s her lip-sync. She can seriously work a stage when she needs to!
Shea has done really well on almost every challenge, which is impressive, but there’s just something about her look that doesn’t seem as polished as it should be. She certainly doesn’t seem as polished as the other three remaining queens. I’m not sure, for example, why none of the judges pointed out how awful her cleavage looked in this bustier. And I’m over the boots these queens keep wearing on the runway. Is it me, or does at least one queen wear a pair of black knee-high boots every week! Anyway, Shea just looks sloppy work when you consider that the category this week was Eleganza Extravaganza, and that she is a contender for the crown with a really good chance of winning.
Sasha is known for being a fashion queen and an intellectual. However, I don’t find her particular drag style to be all that unique and interesting when compared to the likes of Raja or Nina Flowers. Still, she could win just because she stands out as being different when compared to the other three contestants. I like Sasha, and I wouldn’t mind if she ended up winning, but I’m still hoping that Peppermint is America’s next drag superstar,
So what do you think? Who do you predict will win it all? We won’t find out for two weeks! The final episode of RPDR season 9 airs Friday, June 24th.
